How is consistency calculated on Basic Options accounts?

What is the Consistency Rule?

No single trade can make up 30% or more of your total profit. This rewards steady trading over one lucky trade.

If your consistency is 30% or higher, your account is not breached. You just keep trading until it comes down.

How to Calculate

Consistency = Best trade ÷ Total profit

  • Best trade is your single most profitable trade.

  • Total profit is your net profit across all trades, so losing trades reduce it.

Quick tip: Divide your best trade by 0.30 to find the total profit you need to beat. If your best trade is $400, your total profit needs to be more than $1,333.33 ($400 ÷ 0.30).

Worked Example: $10,000 Evaluation

Your profit target is $1,000. After 10 trades:

Trade

Profit/loss

1

+$150

2

+$120

3

−$80

4

+$400

5

+$90

6

+$110

7

−$60

8

+$130

9

+$100

10

+$140

Total

$1,100

Consistency = $400 ÷ $1,100 = 36%

You've passed the profit target and have 10 trades, but your consistency is 30% or higher. You haven't failed. You keep trading.

You take three more trades of +$80, +$90 and +$70. Your total profit is now $1,340.

Consistency = $400 ÷ $1,340 = 29.9%

Your consistency is now below 30%, so you've met all three requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

My consistency is 30% or higher. Will my account be breached?

No. Keep trading to bring it down. Consistency only decides when you can pass or request a payout.

Do losing trades affect my consistency?

Yes. Losing trades reduce your total profit, which raises your consistency percentage.

If I add contracts to a position, is that a separate trade?

No. Adding to or reducing the same position counts as one trade, so all of its profit counts toward that one trade. See Minimum Amount of Trades.

Does consistency apply on my Performance Account too?

Yes. You need consistency below 30% to request a payout.

Does my consistency reset after a payout?

No. On the Basic Options Plan, consistency is based on your trades, not your withdrawals, so it carries forward across your full trade history.

Tips to Stay Within the Rule

  • Keep your position sizes steady from trade to trade.

  • Avoid one oversized trade to hit your target faster.

  • Check your consistency on your dashboard as you trade.
